Police Release Name Of Man Killed By Officers In Shelby

SHELBY, N.C. — Investigators say a man was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting in Shelby.

The shooting reportedly happened when officers from the Shelby Police Department were attempting to serve a felony warrant for possession of a firearm by a felon on 27-year-old Joey Bridges, Jr. just before 1am Monday morning.

Investigators say Bridges was confronted by officers at the back of a home on South Dekalb Street. Detectives say a confrontation ensued and shots were exchanged. Β BridgesΒ was shot and killed.

The SBI is investigating. Β The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Sgt. John Hamrick and Officer Brandon Smith.
