Police Release Name Of Man Killed By Officers In Shelby

SHELBY, N.C. — Investigators say a man was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting in Shelby.

The shooting reportedly happened when officers from the Shelby Police Department were attempting to serve a felony warrant for possession of a firearm by a felon on 27-year-old Joey Bridges, Jr. just before 1am Monday morning.

Investigators say Bridges was confronted by officers at the back of a home on South Dekalb Street. Detectives say a confrontation ensued and shots were exchanged.  Bridges was shot and killed.

The SBI is investigating.  The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Sgt. John Hamrick and Officer Brandon Smith.
