Martinez Scores Twice in Preseason Rivalry
Cary (N.C.) – The Charlotte Independence drew with in-state rivals, North Carolina FC in the third preseason game of the year, which gives Charlotte a 1-1-1 preseason record. League MVP Finalist, Enzo Martinez scored two goals and has three goals in the last two preseason matches. David Estrada added two assists to give him four for the preseason.
“We came out with confidence and we were able to get chances due to the pressure we put on them,” said Head Coach Mike Jeffries. “Our movement was really, really sharp. We got behind them a number of times. To be fair, it was a tale of two halves; our first group versus their second group, and vice versa in the second half.”
The Independence will next face MLS’ Atlanta United FC in a closed, preseason session in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday, March 19th at 2:00 PM ET. Charlotte begins their regular season USL schedule on Saturday, April 1st at Transamerica Field on the Campus of UNC Charlotte at 7:00 PM ET.
