INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — Indian Trail Councilwoman Amy Stanton says she is resigning to pursue other opportunities.
Stanton, who was elected in November of 2015, says she is taking a new position, which will interfere with her council duties.
“After a great deal of thought and prayer, and discussions with my family, I have decided to accept a new opportunity that will require me to step down from my seat on the Indian Trail Town Council,” Stanton said. “I make this decision with a heavy heart, because I have cherished my time representing the people of Indian Trail. But this is the right decision for my family and I at this time. I want to thank the people of Indian Trail for entrusting me as their voice on Council, and to thank the Town staff for all they do every day for our residents. I also wish to thank my fellow council members, and wish them the best in moving Indian Trail forward into the future.”
On February 25, 2017, Stanton was arrested for simple assault, after she was involved in an altercation with her daughter.
It is unknown whether Stanton’s resignation is related to her arrest.
The Indian Trail Town Council will meet on March 28, to discuss filling Stanton’s seat.
