Wilson’s World: Gearing Up for Books on Break at Promising Pages
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Summer “brain drain” for school children is a major issue. Wilson was at Promising Pages this morning to find out more about their “Books on Break” program that gives students access to books during summer break to ensure they stay sharp and ready for school when summer is over.
This year, the summer “Books on Break” program will serve over 8,000 students, distributing over 56,000 books in 15 CMS schools. Thousands of books are still needed as well as hundreds of volunteers to get the books together. Volunteering is a great opportunity for church groups and community groups.
One of the partners working to help Promising Pages is Restore Global. Restore Global a non-profit organization created to help eliminate waste by connecting corporations and companies with non-profits that are in need of the excess inventory they have. Find out more about Restore Global at their website restoreglobal.org.
Over 60,000 children in the Greater Charlotte area are growing up without books that help them learn to read and grow. To find out more about Promising Pages, how you can donate those books that your kids have outgrown or how to volunteer go to their website at promisingpages.org.
Promising Pages also has summer internships available. Both high school and college kids may apply. To find out more about their internships or to apply, go to their website HERE.
