Wanted Man Arrested Following SWAT Standoff In Northwest Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they took a wanted man into custody following a SWAT standoff in northwest Charlotte Monday evening.
Investigators say they were attempted to arrest Demont Forte, who was wanted on outstanding warrants for felony breaking and entering, assault on a female and communicating threats.
Police say Forte was inside a residence on St. Mark Street when he was asked to come outside by officers but detectives say he refused to come out of the residence.
The SWAT team was called out due to the suspect’s violent criminal past, according to a news release. Police say Forte has been arrested over 40 times and was even arrested for murder in 1992. Officers also relocated nearby residents as a precaution.
The SWAT team eventually entered the home and took Forte into custody. No injuries were reported.
