Two More Mumps Cases Confirmed in Watauga County
WATAUGA COUNTY, NC — Two more cases of mumps have been confirmed in WataugaΒ County.Β Health officials say that brings the total number to three cases this month.
An AppalachianΒ State student and a CaldwellΒ Community College student were diagnosed this week.
The mumps is a contagious virus that can lead to swelling and pain in the salivary glands.Β It most commonly affects children ages 5 to 14. The rate among young adults has increased over the last two decades.
