Carjacking Leads to Police Chase, Victims Speak

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have not yet identified the two men who led officers on a high-speed chase through Charlotte Tuesday before rush hour.

It started when officers spotted a stolen car at The Plaza and E. Sugar Creek Rd., chased it through East

Charlotte, down Independence, into Uptown and back to North Charlotte where it crashed into an innocent driver on N. Tryon St. about a half mile from where it all began.

“Her airbags popped out their airbags popped out,” said one witness, Q Jones. “She was pretty banged up. It took her a minute. I walked up to her car and tried to see if she needed a phone or whatever, but she couldn’t even she was like out of it.”

“I feel sorry for the lady because she was an innocent bystander, and look at her car. Completely totaled,” said Tiffany Anderson.

The suspects ran. One hid under a truck at a nearby rental store. Within minutes, both were in custody.

It’s unclear if these men are part of the seven who are listed as suspects in the initial carjacking police report.

The report says the carjacking happened at gunpoint Monday night in the parking lot of the County Club Apartments on Dunlavin Way.

WCCB Charlotte spoke to one of the teens carjacked. Carlos Perez says the car’s owner “…wants justice for what happened. He wants the guys who did that to us, to pay for what they did.”
