AAA Says Memorial Day Weekend Flight Travel Up 5% From Last Year

CHARLOTTE, NC — Expect a busy Memorial Day weekend at the airport as AAA says more than 124,000 will take to the skies.

Officials say that number is up 5% from 2016. According to officials, roughly 30,000 passengers passed through the security screenings Friday at Charlotte Douglas.

The Friday before Memorial Day is usually the airport’s third busiest day of the year, and over booked flights have already left some passengers grounded.

Saturday shouldn’t be as crowded, but officials still expect more than 22,000 passengers to fly in or out of the airport.
