Motel Murder Marks Third This Holiday Weekend
CHARLOTTE, NC — A motel murder marked the third homicide this holiday weekend in Charlotte and the 35th this year.
Monday morning, CMPD announced the search for a gunman who killed 23-year-old Bobby Wesley, Jr. and assaulted a 16-year-old inside a room at the Travel Inn off Interstate 85 at the Sugar Creed Road exit.
“Lord have mercy on that man’s soul who got killed at the Travel Inn,” said Minister Gerald McCombs.
He came to send a message to those creating the violence in Charlotte and spoke on a loud speaker outside the motel.
Police found Wesley dead in the motel room before 5:45 Monday morning.
“I’m very concerned about the murders that’s happening around Charlotte, North Carolina,” said McCombs.
Homicide number two happened at a University City BI-LO grocery store.
Police say someone shot and killed Anderson Biggers in the parking lot Saturday.
The first homicide of the holiday weekend happened at the Presley apartments in Uptown.
CMPD says Andre Young-Johnson broke in and killed Julian Williams on Friday.
“It’s a holiday weekend; a lot of people had some time off. Don’t know the factors of each individual one [homicide], but, obviously, people resort to violence to solve disputes,” said Maj. Coerte Voorhees.
At the motel, police say the 16-year-old assaulted was not hospitalized. Motel workers say they have more security.
Police are still searching for suspects in 13 of the 25 homicides so far this year.
There were 18 homicides in Charlotte at this time last year.
