Salisbury Officer Cleared In Fatal 2016 Officer-Involved Shooting
UPDATE: After a thorough investigation by the SBI, Officer Karl Boehm has been cleared in the 2016 shooting death of Ferguson Laurent, Jr.
In the findings released by Rowan County DA Brandy Cook on Wednesday, investigators say evidence showed that Laurent was armed with a handgun and fired at Officer Boehm. As a result, investigators say Officer Boehm returned fire at Laurent, which ultimately led to his death.
The shooting happened on November 3, 2016 while detectives with the Salisbury Police Department were serving search warrants at a home on Lafayette Street. The warrants were being served in connection to an undercover drug investigation.

SALISBURY, N.C. — An autopsy revealed that a man shot by police in Salisbury was shot 10 times.
Investigators say the Special Response Team was conducting a no-knock search warrant at a home that police believe had narcotics, weapons and stolen property inside. Β The Special Response Team say they believed the suspects in the home were armed.
During the entry into the home by officers, police say 22-year-old Ferguson Laurent Jr. fired at least one shot at the officers. Β Investigators say Officer Karl Boehm returned fired and struck Laurent, who passed away at the hospital.
A toxicology report showed Laurent did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his death. Β The SBI has been asked to investigate the shooting.
