Good Samaritan Stops Man Holding Woman at Knife Point

Stanley, NC — A good Samaritan stepped in to stop a man holding a woman at knife point.

Now, the suspect is in the Gaston County Jail, and the woman is safe.

It was a moment police say might have saved the 26-year-old woman’s life.

“She was laying down on her back in the front seat of the truck, and he had his hand over her throat with a knife,” said Gaston County Commissioner Chad Brown.

Commissioner Brown was at his son’s baseball practice outside Kiser Elementary School in Stanley on Thursday evening.

That’s when police say Blair Lambert began attacking a woman in the parking lot of the school.

“I could see him grabbing her by the hair. That’s when I knew I had to do something,” said Commissioner Brown.

Commissioner Brown says he grabbed a baseball bat and drove up to stop it.

He says Lambert drove off from the school, and Brown followed him down the street until the woman fell out of the vehicle.

“It was sad, you know? She was crying the whole time. I never knew her name or anything about it, and don’t care. I would do it for anybody, but I’m glad she’s safe now,” said Commissioner Brown.

Stanley Police Sgt. Robert Carrigan caught up with Lambert. Police charged him with aggravated assault and kidnapping.

We aren’t releasing the woman’s name to protect her privacy. Her parents say she dates Lambert, and they worry about her safety.

“What Commissioner Brown done, a good act, possibly saved her life. It is something that we don’t recommend because of the nature of the call,” said Sgt. Carrigan.

Police say to call 911 because they say domestic situations can be some of the most violent cases even they encounter.

“For every lady in that situation, if they’re going to do it once, there’s no reason to be there for the second time!” said Commissioner Brown.

Police remind domestic violence victims that they will take you and your family to the nearest women’s shelter any time you want, and they will walk you through the process to get help.
