LANCASTER, S.C. — A homicide investigation is underway in Lancaster County after a local small business owner was killed outside his home.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Harnish J. Patel, 43, was found lying in his front yard, close to the side door of his home, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports indicate deputies were called to a complaint of gunshots and screaming on Craig Manor Road at 11:33 p.m. on Thursday, March 2. Officers spoke with a resident of the area, who also heard gunshots, and were directed to Mr. Patel’s residence on Craig Manor Road, across from the White Oak Manor long term care facility.
Mr. Patel owned the Speedee Mart on Pageland Highway in Lancaster. The LCSO says Mr. Patel closed his business and drove directly home at 11:24 p.m., Thursday night. Investigators think he was approached by his killer as he exited his vehicle.
Sheriff Barry Faile stated, “If you saw anything at the store, in the area of Craig Manor Road, or anywhere in between, let us know. Even if you think it is not important, it could be the lead that solves this case.”
