CHARLOTTE, NC — The Citizen’s Review Board now wants a second hearing and more evidence after announcing Tuesday that it found potential errors in CMPD’s decision to call the Keith Scott shooting justified.

The board says they want to hear from witnesses who saw Keith Scott’s shooting before deciding if CMPD was wrong in its investigation.
The CRB heard from Scott’s family attorney and CMPD in private Tuesday.
It’s the 91st case the board has heard in 20 years, and stats show no board has ever ruled in favor of a complaining citizen.
Scott’s family attorney argues that Officer Bentley Vinson violated rights, and says shooting Scott did not conform to CMPD’s use of force policy.
CMPD says Scott had a gun and ignored officer commands outside the University City apartment complex last September, but body and dash cam video doesn’t clearly show if Scott had a gun in his hand.
The City of Charlotte issued the following statement after the CRB’s announcement:
“The work of the Citizens Review Board is crucial in ensuring transparency, fairness and accountability. The City of Charlotte respects today’s decision by the Citizens Review Board and thanks the members of the board for their service.”
The second hearing is scheduled for August 8 at 9am, and will be closed to the public.
