Wilson’s World: Cranking Up for the Upcoming UCI BMX World Championships

The BMX World Championships will be held in Rock Hill July 25th through July 29th.

ROCK HILL, S.C. –  Later this month world champion BMX riders will be converging on Rock Hill to compete in the UCI BMX World Championships.  Wilson was at the Novant Health BMX Supercross Track located in Rock Hill’s Riverwalk community to find out more about the event and the young people who will be participating.

The UCI BMX World Championship is projected to be the largest international sporting event in South Carolina history.  This is the first time in 16 years that the event has been held in the United States.  The participants are very excited to be able to participate in the championship on their home turf.  Almost 3,500 athletes are expected to attend.  Olympic BMX riders will also be participating in the event as well.

The track in Rock Hill is one of the best in the United States with some of the kids even moving to the area to be able to train on the track. Wilson talked with some of the riders about the event and the track.

The Opening Ceremony kicks off on Saturday, July 22nd at the Fountain in Downtown Rock Hill with live bands, amusement rides, international food trucks and presentation of flags.
