No Swim Advisory Lifted For Mt. Island Lake

UPDATE:  The “No Swimming” advisory for McDowell Creek Cove on Mountain Island Lake has been lifted.

The ban was originally issued on July 10, 2017.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — It could be days until swimmers are allowed back in a portion of Mountain Island Lake.

The no swim advisory is for McDowell Creek Cove. Officials say partially treated wastewater leaked from a Charlotte water treatment plant on Jim Kidd Road in Huntersville.

According to reports, the leak happened when the plant lost power during storms Saturday night.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Storm Water Services is testing the water, but results won’t be available until Wednesday.
