PGA Parking & Traffic Alerts

CHARLOTTE, NC– It’s less than a week until one of the most prestigious sporting events in Charlotte.

The PGA Championship has worldwide appeal, and it’s expected to bring more than 200,000 fans to Quail Hollow Club.

The city of Charlotte started warning about traffic alerts Tuesday.

“It will be a challenge,” said James Alexander. “You do have to time things in and out.”

Alexander is HOA President at a nearby neighborhood where people are preparing for the crowd in their own way.

“Sometimes, we have people that want to park on the streets over there. So, it’s a little tough.”

Everything from traffic to trash pickup will change in the area as the fans make a $100 million economic impact on the city.

“We’ve done the Wells Fargo for years and years, and we have a very good idea of what to expect, but, again, this brings it up a different level,” said Joe Yanochick with the Department of Transportation.

Trash pickup in the Quail Hollow area starts at 4:30 Wednesday morning Aug. 9.

Glenn Eagles Rd. closes at 6:00 am in the morning until 9:00 pm every night next week.

“Everybody’s kind of ready for more traffic or potential parking issues,” said another resident, Andrew Shimko.

CMPD says the heaviest traffic will be Thursday through Sunday.

If you are going, you can buy a parking pass online for Bojangles Coliseum, Carowinds, and Ballantyne Business Park.

There, you can hop in a shuttle to the course. You can also take the Blue Line train for free to the Sharon Rd. West stop to pick up a shuttle there.

There is a long list of items online that you cannot bring. You can take in one unopened water bottle and a bag no bigger than 10x10x10.

“The scale and scope of this event is much larger, but we are prepared for that,” said
Deputy Chief Coerte Voorhees.

Services like Uber and Lyft can drop people off at the club.

That way, you can avoid the shuttles.
