Concord Police Officer’s Thumb Severed In Dog Attack

CONCORD, N.C. — A Concord police officer is recovering after being attacked by a dog while trying to serve an arrest warrant.

Officials say Officer Julia Soares sustained a significant injury to her thumb after the dog attacked her at a home on Clintwood Drive.  Police say part of her right thumb was severed and not able to be medically reattached.

Soares was originally taken to CMC-Northeast for treatment but was transported to CMC-Main for further treatment.  Doctors expect Soares to make a full recovery.

Deputies with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division responded to the scene to conduct an investigation of the incident.  No other details have been released at this time.
