WATAUGA COUNTY, NC — An 18-year-old girl has been charged with DWI and Hit and Run after an accident killed one person and injured another Saturday morning.
Makala O’Brien, of Trade, TN, was driving on Hwy 105 towards Boone when officials say she ran off the right side of the road and hit 26-year-old Adam Greer and 28-year-old Timothy Watson, both of Boone. Officials say Greer died from injuries and Watson was seriously injured.
Troopers say O’Brien left the scene after the accident and was later found in Mountain City, TN. She voluntarily returned to NC, according to officials, and has been charged with DWI, underage drinking, and two counts of felony hit and run.
Investigators say everyone involved in the accident was at a party Friday night, but no one else has been charged. O’Brien has been released on bond.
