CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have identified the driver involved in a fatal hit and run in north Charlotte back in June. Leon Moses, Jr., 18, has been charged with Felony Hit & Run, Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle and No Operators License.
Investigators say officers located 67-year-old William Johnson Jr lying in the road at the intersection of Statesville Avenue and Norris Avenue on June 23rd.
Johnson was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Witnesses told police Johnson was riding on a moped when he was struck by a silver Mitsubishi Mirage. The driver of the Mirage, now identified as Moses, reportedly fled the scene.
The suspect vehicle was located a short distance away on Montreat Street and Norris Avenue unoccupied, according to a news release.
On July 15th, police say Johnson died from the injuries he sustained in the wreck. The case has been turned over to CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
