Hundreds Gather at Vigil for Charlottesville

CHARLOTTE, NC – In Charlotte, hundreds gathered in Uptown to support Charlottesville after violent clashes between white supremacists and protesters.

CMPD also worked to calm fears after a rumor spread about the KKK marching in Uptown.

“We’re not protesting. We’re not defensive. We’re here to hold space to mourn publicly, to talk to each other and then to act,” explains Charlotte Uprising organizer Ash Williams.

Williams says while it’s important people speak out against hate, she wants to see action beyond Saturday night.

There was also a large police presence surrounding the park. Earlier in the day, CMPD tweeted that a rumor about the KKK marching in Charlote was false.

A similar rumor in Durham Friday caused hundreds of protesters to show up there.
