Undercover Officer Robbed, Kidnapped During Arranged Drug Deal In Rowan County

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Three men are facing serious felony charges after they reportedly robbed and kidnapped an undercover officer during a drug deal.

Investigators say a purchase of narcotics had been arranged with the suspects and the undercover officer at a fast food restaurant on East Innes Street in Salisbury.

Officials say the undercover officer was robbed at gunpoint by one of three suspects when he entered the vehicle.

The suspects took the officer’s .9mm handgun and more than $1,500 in cash, according to a news release.  After the robbery, investigators say the suspects attempted to leave the parking lot with the officer still inside the vehicle.

At that time, surveillance teams confronted the suspects at gunpoint and took the three men into custody.  The undercover officer was not injured.

Police charged Donald Armstrong, 36, or Spencer, Tyrese Stiller, 18, of Salisbury and John Sheehan, 36, of Salisbury in the case.

Here are a breakdown of their charges:

Armstrong was charged with the following offenses:

-Possession of firearm by felon (possession of the .9-millimeter handgun)

-Conspiracy to commit the felony of kidnapping

-Possession of a stolen firearm (possession of the .9-millimeter handgun)

-First degree kidnapping

-Conspiracy to commit the felony of robbery with a dangerous weapon

-Robbery with a dangerous weapon

Armstrong was placed under a $250,000 secured bond.

Stiller was charged with the following offenses:

-Conspiracy to commit the felony of kidnapping

-Possession of a stolen firearm (possession of the .40 handgun)

-First degree kidnapping

-Possess with intent to sell/delivery cocaine

-Conspiracy to commit the felony of robbery with a dangerous weapon

-Robbery with a dangerous weapon

Stiller was placed under a $250,000 secured bond.

Sheehan was charged with the following offenses:

-Conspiracy to commit the felony of kidnapping

-First degree kidnapping

-Conspiracy to commit the felony of robbery with a dangerous weapon

-Robbery with a dangerous weapon

Sheehan was placed under a $150,000 secured bond.

Investigators say all three suspects are repeat offenders.
