Local Cities Make Preparations For Hurricane Irma’s Impact

NORTH CAROLINA — Cities are urging residents to make plans and be prepared for any potential impacts Hurricane Irma could have on the area.

The city of Morganton announced Friday that they will open their recreation center as a shelter as they prepare for possible power outages. The city manager also says that the city is fueling up as long lines continue to file into gas stations.

The city of Monroe is also getting prepared for whatever Irma may bring, and urging citizens to do the same. Fire Chief Ron Fowler said in a statement Friday, “Knowing your risk, getting prepared and staying informed are just a few steps you can take to be ready for Hurricane Irma.
Plans are in place so if the storm does hit Monroe, we are capable of responding quickly and effectively.”
