Wilson’s World: Preparing the Flags for the 9/11 Flags of Remembrance Ceremony on Monday

Volunteers begin placing the flags for the 9/11 Flags of Remembrance Event on Monday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wilson was at Romare Bearden Park this morning in Uptown Charlotte where volunteers with the F.F. Steven Coakley Foundation are placing American flags in preparation for this Monday’s 9/11 Flags of Remembrance.

America promised to never forget the horrific attack on September 11, 2001  that took the lives of 2,996 people when the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers were attacked by terrorists. For 11 years the F.F. Steven Coakley Foundation has marked this day in history with their Flags of Remembrance Memorial.  Visitors to the memorial will find 2,996 flags, one flag for each life lost on 9/11 in the Twin Towers.

On Monday, September 11th a reflective memorial will begin at Romare Bearden Park at 8:30am and will include several members of the FDNY speaking.  The memorial will consist of the tolling of a bell at prominent times of 8:46, 9:03, 9:37, 9:59, 10:03 & 10:28 and will include a replica of the Twin Towers to sign for sharing your thoughts.

A steel beam from the WTC will be on display.  Bring  your family to visit and see this powerful tribute.  The flags will be on display until 10am Tuesday morning.
