Strong Winds Bring Down Trees & Power Lines in York & Chester Counties
ROCK HILL, SC – What’s left of Irma is bringing strong gusty winds to York and Chester counties.
In Fort Mill, scary moments for one driver. The front of his car got crushed as a tree came crashing down along Clebourne Street.
Fort Mill Police say no one was hurt.
York County Emergency Management Director Chuck Haynes says he’s preparing for a long night.
“We’re asking people to be very vigilant. If they get up in morning to leave, trees may have fallen during the night and we may not find all of them by daylight,” Haynes says.
He expects conditions to improve by midday Tuesday.
“We’re not looking at flooding issues. But heavy rains at times but mostly the threat is wind,” he says.
Further south, we saw power crews working to repair lines along Highway 9 east of Chester.
In town, a strong gust of wind brought down several trees and power lines near the intersection of York and Walnut Streets.
Police blocked off the area.
Officials say if you can, stay off the roads.
