CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a pedestrian was hit and killed early Friday morning in northeast Charlotte.
Investigators say 52-year-old George Wingo was crossing the northbound lanes of North Tryon Street when he was struck by a 2011 Camaro driven by Marlin Broadnax.
Police say the Camaro was in the far right lane and the driver attempted to stop when he saw the pedestrian.
Wingo was not crossing the road at a marked crosswalk and the collision happened before sunrise, according to a news release.
Alcohol and speed are not contributing factors for the driver. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call CMPD at 704-432-2169.
