MINT HILL, N.C. — Police say a student was taken into custody after they found a 9mm handgun inside a backpack.
Police were called out to Rocky River High School around 8:30am Tuesday after school officials were alerted that a 14-year-old student had a gun.
The student was removed from the class and the gun was discovered in a backpack, according to a news release.
The student was released to the custody of their parent and a juvenile petition will be filled with Juvenile Court Services.
Police say there was no indication that the student ever removed the gun from their backpack while on school property.
