CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have charged a woman in connection with a two-car wreck that happened last week and killed a 14-month-old girl.
Dora Del Carmen Sosa, was released from Carolinas Medical Center and transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where warrants for Involuntary Manslaughter, Felony Child Abuse, and No Operators License were served.
Sosa was traveling northbound on N. Graham Street near Plymouth Avenue, behind a large truck. When Sosa changed lanes to pass, there was a pick-up truck stopped and waiting to turn left. Sosa then swerved around the pick-up into the on-coming lanes, striking the southbound Toyota Camry driven by David John Collins Jr. head-on.
MEDIC transported the drivers and child passenger to Carolinas Medical Center-Main. The drivers sustained serious injury. The child passenger had life threatening injuries. The child was later pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Sosa is reportedly now in the custody of ICE who released this statement, “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took illegally present Honduran national Carmen Sosa-Bonilla into custody Dec. 5 in Charlotte, North Carolina, following her Dec. 4 arrest on felony charges in Mecklenburg County. Ms. Sosa was previously ordered removed from the United States by a federal immigration judge in September 2005.”
