YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A York County School District employee has been arrested after a camera was found in a restroom at a York County School.
Authorities were alerted on November 19, 2017, after the parent of a juvenile told police her daughter had found a small video camera in a restroom inside a classroom at York Intermediate School on November 16, 2017.
The parent told officials that her daughter took the camera to a school employee, who has been identified as Jonathan King, 44, and told him where she found it.
King worked as a teacher assistant who monitored a small group of In School Suspension students.
According to the parent, King told her he would make the school administration aware of the situation. When the parent did not hear anything from the school, she contacted law enforcement.
York Police Department Detectives contacted the school’s administration who were unaware of the incident.
Detectives and District Administrators were able to identify King as the employee who the student gave the camera to and seized a computer King for forensic analysis.
Following the analysis, warrants were issued for King for two counts of Voyeurism and one count of First Degree Exploitation of a Minor.
Jonathan King turned himself in to the York Police Department on January 3, 2018.
The case is still under investigation and any questions can be directed to Lt. Billy Mumaw at bmumaw@yorksc.gov.
