Charges Still Pending For Man Accused Of Wounding 3 York County Officers, Killing A Fourth
YORK COUNTY, SC — After a night of horrific violence that ended in the murder of a local sheriff’s deputy, the suspect, 47-year-old Christian McCall is one day closer to being charged with the crimes.
York County Solicitor, Kevin Brackett is building a murder case against McCall, but says, “It’s going to take time for him to be brought out of the hospital brought down here.”
Someone called 911 last Monday night saying McCall was beating a woman on Farrier Lane. Investigators say he hid in the woods and shot York County Sheriff’s Detective Mike Doty, Sergeants Randy Clinton and Buddy Brown, and York Police Sergeant Kyle Cummings.
Detective Doty died from his injuries Wednesday.
Brackett says, “I need to have time to sit down with the victims and talk to them about this.”
The National Archives and Records in Washington, DC is working to provide McCall’s Army service information.
The 47-year old was stationed at Fort Bragg in 1994, according to a police report. It also says McCall assaulted a man in Florence, South Carolina and then scuffled with two police officers while trying to escape.
Records show McCall’s next run-in with the law was in York County in 2015. Deputies showed up to a case in which McCall says he was a victim of domestic violence.
Signs outside his neighborhood read “In Memory of Detective Doty.”
“We lost a really good one,” says Brackett. This case is a reminder of how domestic violence spills into the community.
“It is a very, very serious crime and it is treated seriously here and this is an example of why.”
