York County Sergeant Injured In Shooting Returns To Duty

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Sgt. Kyle Cummings of the York County Sheriff’s Department is back on duty after being shot last month.

Cummings was shot along with two other officials with the York County Sheriff’s Department and a York Police Officer after responding to a domestic violence call.

Detective Mike Doty died him the injuries he sustained in the shooting.  The other injured officials are recovering from their injuries.

The York County Public Information Officer says all of this started after deputies responded to a domestic violence call on Farrier Lane. When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect, Christian Thomas McCall, 47, had already left on foot, according to officials. Early the next morning, officials say McCall fired shots from near the home, striking a K9 officer who was using a dog to track the suspect.

A total of four police officials were shot.  Authorities shot McCall and took him into custody.  He is now facing a slew of charges.
