Original Story:
CHARLOTTE, NC — A 50-year-old security officer working at the Charlotte Transit Center is recovering after an assault Friday evening.
CMPD says Jeffery Outen, a GS4 Company Police Officer, was working at the transit center on E. Trade Street around 6pm when the incident occurred. The suspect reportedly assaulted Outen when the officer tried to arrest him for trespassing on the property.
The suspect hit Outen in the head multiple times, according to CMPD, and continued hitting him even after he fell onto the sidewalk and was knocked unconcious.
GS4 and CMPD officers responded to the scene and were able to take the suspect into custody.
Although Officer Outen’s injuries are not life threatening, officials say he did receive multiple stitches and is being treated for a broken nasal bone and a damaged orbital socket. Outen has been a Sworn Police Officer for 26 years.
The suspect’s name will be released once he is formally charged. The investigation is ongoing.
