CHARLOTTE, NC.– The wait is over! You can now hop on the light rail at UNC Charlotte and head to Uptown in about 25 minutes. Friday, commuters got their first taste of the LYNX-System Blue Line Extension.

People were all smiles as they took their first ride on the long awaited Blue Line Extension. The CEO of CATS says this is just the beginning. Saying they’ll waste no time getting to the rest of the 2030 Transit Corridor System Plan.

The extension offers a new access point to UNC Charlotte. Along the way, has 11 stops from campus to Uptown.

“We have access now to other restaurants, we can zip down to NoDa, it’s really an exciting time for Charlotte,” says Uptown resident Vivian Correa.

The  Blue Line Extension is just one part of the  2030 Transit Corridor System Plan. CATS CEO John Lewis says the plan is all about increasing connectivity in the Queen City. He says when it’s complete, we’ll have five corridors throughout the city.

It’s already having an impact on the city. Lewis says there’s an estimated $500 million of new development going on along the extension.
