73 Citations Issued On I-277 For ‘Speed A Little, Lose A Lot’ Campaign

The CMPD has concluded a speed enforcement operation on the John Belk Freeway.  Twelve officers issued 73 citations between 8:00 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

There were 49 citations issued for speeding, nine for lack of registration, four for driving without a license, three for reckless driving, two for driving on a revoked license, and six for various other infractions.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD is conducting a speed operation on I-277.  This operation is being held in conjunction with the Governor’s Highway Safety Program “Speed a Little, Lose a Lot” campaign.

The operation will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning. This year, CMPD has had 17 traffic fatalities and 7 of the crashes were a result of individuals traveling above the posted speed limit. In 2016, CMPD investigated 78 fatal crashes and 25 of those crashes were speed related.
