CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a woman was shot and killed during an alleged robbery in east Charlotte.
Officers responded to the call just after 6am on Barrington Drive near The Plaza. Upon arrival, officers located a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The woman was taken to a local hospital but died from her injuries. She has been identified as 36-year-old Maria Eduvigig Echeverria de Gomez.
Initial information gathered at the scene indicates that this was an armed robbery where two black males robbed and shot the victim before fleeing the scene in a black sedan, according to a news release.
Police say the suspects were last seen driving on Barrington Drive towards Milton Road. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
