Rock Hill Juneteenth Committee Looking For Participants

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Juneteenth Rock Hill Celebration Committee is now seeking entertainers, musicians, hairstylists, vendors, and volunteers for the 2018 Juneteenth Rock Hill Celebration of Freedom.

The deadline to apply to be a part of Juneteenth Rock Hill is April 27, 2018.

This year’s celebration will take place on June 15th-16th, 2018. Activities will kick off with a Food Truck Friday event
at Fountain Park from 6 – 10 pm.

The Juneteenth festivities will continue on Saturday, June 16th with a Freedom Fest and talent showcase, on the grounds of Mt. Prospect Baptist Church and Friendship Jr. College from 11 am – 3 pm.

The Juneteenth Rock Hill Celebration Committee is seeking entertainers, musicians, and vendors for the Food Truck Friday and Freedom Fest talent showcase events. The committee is also looking for volunteers for both days of the event.

New this year, there will be a hair show to feature the most creative natural hairstyle. The committee would like hairstylists, particularly those who specialize in natural styles to sign up for the hair show on Saturday, June 16th. The cost for models to participate in the hair show is $15. The winner will receive a Juneteenth Rock Hill trophy. Small business owners can also purchase an advertisement to be featured in the Juneteenth Rock Hill Newsletter.

In addition to the Juneteenth Rock Hill Celebration weekend events, a few kick-off activities will take place.

Returning this year are the cultural art-based events at the York County Library (Rock Hill campus) featuring Lil’ Lilly Ann’s Story of Jubilee on June 7th at 5 pm and On the Front Porch with Mama Lopy on June 9th at 2 pm.

A Juneteenth Soul Food Cook-off will take place on Saturday, June 8th at the Kenneth Monroe Transformation Center from 5:30 – 7 pm.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It celebrates the history, culture, and customs of African Americans.

In 2015, the Juneteenth Rock Hill Committee, partnered with the City of Rock Hill to help promote and grow this event. Prior to the collaboration, the celebration has taken place for nearly 20 years at Mt. Prospect Baptist Church.
