Pence Talks Taxes, Veterans In Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC — Vice President Mike Pence was in Charlotte Friday, telling voters that the latest tax reform is not just good for the wealthy few, it will trickle down to working families.
“That’s promises made and promises kept!” Pence repeated to the crowd of supporters.
He gave three points: fewer people will have to itemize their taxes, the child tax credit will increase to $2,000 and big companies pay less.
It will raise debt at least $1.46 trillion dollars in 10 years, according to the joint committee on taxation.

Democrats argue this tax reform hurts middle class families, only benefits big banks here in Charlotte, corporations and lawmakers here told me their message is it’s not hurting families.
“That’s just pure nonsense,” said Rep. Robert Pittenger. “So many companies are giving more back, and they’re expanding.”
Rep. Pittenger and Sen. Thom Tillis spoke before V.P. Pence about trickling down profits “The proof is in the paycheck,” said Sen. Tillis.
Pence also spoke personally with local veteran, Michael Verardo.
He was injured in Afghanistan. He was in the front row with his wife, Sarah, to ensure lawmakers face the price of war.
“It’s so important to look at a man like my husband and say this is the cost of freedom,” said Sarah.
She speaks for Michael because he suffered a severe brain injury when roadside bombs hit him in 2010.
Together, they push for better veteran health care.
“The system is archaic,” said Sarah. “It’s in need of massive overhaul.”
WCCB Charlotte reported to you in February about complaints that the Charlotte Veterans Affairs Health Care Center cancels appointments. We also reported a law giving the VA power to fire problem employees.
“We’re bringing accountability inside the VA. It’s been run amuck,” said Rep. Pittenger.
