Wilson’s World: Spending Summertime At Camp Cadet In York County, SC
TEGA CAY, S.C. — Wilson loves summer camp! He’s always exploring different summer camps, but this time he’s visiting a unique one- Camp Cadet in Tega Cay.
York County’s Camp Cadet is in its third year. The free camp provides a way for 40+ kids to interact and bond with first responders in the community.
Fifth, sixth and seventh graders of all different backgrounds learn everything about the fire department, police department and bomb squad. Who wouldn’t want to learn about the bomb squad’s cool robot?
Not only is Camp Cadet educational, but it’s also fun! The kids took a trip to Wet N’ Wild Emerald Pointe in Greensboro to cool off on the water slides!
Wilson spoke with Sgt. Rob Burns of the Tega Cay Police Department who said that his goal is to show campers that first responders are just regular people who save lives.
Friday is the last day of Camp Cadet, but boy, did the campers have quite the week! On Monday, the kids visited the York County Training Center. They saw demonstrations from the bomb squad, marine patrol and mounted patrol. Campers even got to ride some horses. It’s clear, Camp Cadet organizers keep their campers busy.
If you’d like to support the Tega Cay Police Department Summer Camp Cadet program, attend the 4th annual Camp Cadet Golf Tournament that takes place Friday, September 28th at the Tega Cay Golf Club, 15083 Molokai Drive. Proceeds benefit Camp Cadet.
Contact Sgt. Rob Burns at 803-371-0858 or rburns@tegacaysc.gov if you’d like to play some golf and give back!
