President Trump to Hold Rally in SC Monday to Support Gov. Henry McMaster
CHARLOTTE, NC –Β President Donald Trump is traveling to the Palmetto State Monday. He’ll be in Columbia, campaigning for South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster.
The Republican incumbent is being challenged by businessman John Warren in Tuesday’s runoff. McMaster is hoping tomorrow’s Presidential visit can tip the scales in his favor.
Both candidates are hoping to win over loyal Donald Trump supporters. McMaster, an early Trump loyalist, is being rewarded with the President’s endorsement.
“My approach. It is an optimistic approach where I want to see our state, people of our state fulfill their full potential and that means everybody in the state,” McMaster says.
But some say his opponent, businessman and political newcomer John Warren, is more like the Commander-in-Chief.
“What I represent is a movement across the state, which is a conservative reform movement. And we’re tired of the corruption, we’re tired of the incompetence,” Warren says.
Winthrop Political Science Professor Scott Huffmon says more than 80 percent of South Carolina Republicans support Trump.
“So it’s really about what do folks want.. do they want the one who has Trump’s official blessing, or do they want the one who is more like Trump,” Huffmon says.
He says Monday’s rally in the Capital City could help increase voter turnout in McMaster’s favor.
“They are behind Trump completely, and anything you can do to remind the base to turnout, that’s going to help you,” Huffmon says.
