Six Arrested After Stolen Safe Found Inside Union County Shed
MONROE, N.C. — Investigators say six people were arrested after a stolen safe was found inside a shed at a home in Union County.
A concerned resident became suspicious and called police after seeing people going in and out of a shed behind a relative’s house, according to a news release.
Detectives arrived at the home on Pigg Mattox Road and determined the owner of the safe was a Fort Mill, South Carolina resident.
Officials contacted the owner of the safe and were informed that the owner and his family were on vacation but an adult family member had been staying in the home while they were away.
The homeowner contacted a neighbor who unlocked the home while Fort Mill police inspected to determine if a burglary had occurred. There were no indications of forced entry but officers say they saw scratch marks on the hardwood floors consistent with drag marks from the safe. In addition, several other items were missing from the home including baseball memorabilia, musical instruments, gaming systems, laptop computers and numerous valuables that were secured in the safe.
Officials say Joshua McCutcheon, 21, was the person staying in the home in Fort Mill while the family was on vacation.
Monroe Police reportedly arrested McCutcheon for driving while impaired on June 25th.
The owner of the safe also reported several fraudulent credit card transactions as well as attempted transactions at stores in Pageland, South Carolina. Detectives observed surveillance camera footage from some of the stores and identified one of the suspects as Samantha Price of Monroe, according to a news release.
A search warrant was executed at Price’s home in Monroe and detectives say 10 people were inside. Investigators say they found meth, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and several items stolen from the Fort Mill home.
