Man Charged With Shooting At Firefighters Responding To Grass Fire

TAYLORSVILLE, NC — A man is facing charges after officials say he shot at crews responding to a grass fire Tuesday afternoon.

Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call around 5:30pm at a home on Icard Ridge Road. When they arrived, officials say a neighbor, 54-year-old Michael Porter, fired a shot in their direction.

Fire crews told the homeowner to go back inside, according to reports, and radioed for deputy assistance.

Alexander County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call and arrested Porter. He is charged with Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon on Emergency Personnel and two counts of Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill.
