Suspect Charged In Kings Mountain Armed Robbery

The suspect accused of injuring four people during an armed robbery at Smoke Shop in Kings Mountain has been taken into custody.

Officials say the suspect was arrested around 3pm on Lavender Road at Roseborough Road in Grover, NC after a brief chase with Cleveland County Sheriff’s deputies.

The Kings Mountain Police Department says Rickey Odaniel Smith, Jr. is charged with four counts of Attempted Murder, one count of Kidnapping, one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Larceny Motor Vehicle, and one count of Possession of Stolen Property.

Additional charges from the CCSO are pending, according to officials, in connection to motor vehicle violations.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC — The Kings Mountain Police Department and the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a suspect after four people were injured during a violent armed robbery Wednesday afternoon.

Major Joel Shores with CCSO says two people were shot and one person was stabbed during the incident at Smoke Shop on S. York Road around 12:52pm. In a release from Kings Mountain Police, officials say a fourth person was also injured but no details were given on the nature of their injury.

The current condition of the victims is unknown.

According to police, the suspect entered the store and demanded money. The victims tried to fight back and were reportedly injured during the struggle.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early to mid 20’s. He was last seen wearing tan pants, a black t-shirt, a black bandana covering his head, a white brim hat, and a possible diamond earring in his left ear.

He is driving a burgundy, maroon, or cherry colored 2018 Toyota Rav 4 with a 30-day paper registration plate, which officials say was stolen from an employee.
