A Three Day Search For The Body Of A Missing Charlotte Man Has Come To A Close

CHARLOTTE, NC.–  A three day search for the body of a missing Charlotte man, has come to a close. The three people charged in connection to his murder, are behind bars.

CMPD says after a massive search effort, they believe they found the body of Eric Spells in Union County. The 23-year-old was reported missing by his girlfriend on Wednesday. Family members say his memory as a loving brother and uncle, lives on.

With tears streaming down her face, Erica Spells tells WCCB about a man who was not just her brother, but a father figure to her children.

“He was a great uncle. He was a great friend. Anytime you needed to laugh, anytime you need a hug, he was there,” says Erica Spells.

Eric Spells was reported missing from his home in northwest Charlotte on Wednesday. Police began their search in an area near Rock Hill, but investigators wouldn’t say why the search led them to New Town Road in Waxhaw.

A little bit before 11 am this morning in Union County, detectives located remains that we believe to be Mr. Spells,” says CMPD Captain Chris Dozier.

CMPD arrested three people in connection to Spell’s death. Including his roommate, Dwayne Evans. He’s been charged with first-degree murder. Police say they found evidence that Spells was killed during a fight with Evans. CMPD says Jason Palmer and Shavonn Scott helped Evans dispose of Spell’s body. They’re charged with accessory after the fact.

CMPD officers say finding who they believe to be the body of Eric spells, can give the family the closure they deserve.

“I thank God, they did find him, I got a little bit of peace in me. To forgive those who did that to my brother,” says Erica Spells.

A medical examiner will need to confirm the body is Spell’s.
