ATLANTA, G.A. — Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference officials announced earlier this week that the league will return to Rock Hill, S.C. to host the cross-country and track and field championship events at Winthrop University.
“We are pleased to return to the City of Rock Hill, and are excited about the prospect of them hosting our cross country and track and field championships,” said Gregory Moore, Commissioner of the SIAC, “Their outstanding facilities, strong operational support staff and warm hospitality, I’m certain will maximize the student-athlete experience.”
The new agreement will ensure that Visit York County will host the Cross Country and Track and Field Championships until 2021. The first event to be held in Rock Hill will take place in November of this year at Winthrop University.
“Visit York County is excited to welcome the SIAC Cross Country and Track And Field Championships back to Winthrop University for the next 3 years,” said Andy Clinton, VP of Sales with Visit York County. “Winthrop facilities are top of the line and will provide a great experience for the athletes, coaches and fans who attend the championships.”
The SIAC is a NCAA athletic conference consisting primarily of historically black colleges and universities with headquarters in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The SIAC includes 14 member institutions (Albany State University, Benedict College, Central State University, Clark Atlanta University, Fort Valley State University, Kentucky State University, Lane College, LeMoyne-Owen College, Miles College, Morehouse College, Paine College, Savannah State University, Spring Hill College, and Tuskegee University) which are located within a contiguous six-state footprint (Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and Ohio). The SIAC sponsors seven men’s and six women’s sports and is a proud member of the NCAA Division II.
