James Leaks was convicted Wednesday for the 2016 stabbing death of Darrell Cureton. Immediately after the conviction, a judge sentenced Leaks to 324-401 months in prison.
Leaks was originally charged with 1st Degree Murder in the case, but the jury found him guilty of the lesser-included offense of 2nd Degree Murder.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have arrested 51-year-old James Leaks for the stabbing death of Darrell Cureton, 49, Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say the stabbing happened on Plymouth Avenue just before 5pm Tuesday. Cureton was found with stab wounds and taken to CMC where he was later pronounced dead.
According to investigators, Cureton and Leaks got into an argument in which Cureton was stabbed.
Leaks has been charged with murder and is now in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
