Wilson’s World: Continuing Back to School Week at Lake Wylie Elementary

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –  Wilson continues his “back to school tour” this morning as he visits Lake Wylie Elementary school.  He enjoyed checking out everything they have going on for the new school year, including their vegetable garden, and their new Sensory Lab.

Lake Wylie Elementary has some great partners in the community.  Good Shepherd Church is one of their partners.  Volunteers from the church commit time and resources to the school.  They have a ‘reading buddy’ program where volunteers will work with one child at least one hour a week.

Lake Wylie’s Sensory Lab is new to the school this year.  The Sensory Lab will be used to utilize the student’s brain, body, and mind to improve behavior and academic performance.

Lake Wylie is also looking for volunteers to be a mentor to the children as part of their ‘Mentorship Program.’  Mentors are need to come in to be a involved with students and give them support and encouragement for about 20 minutes a week.  Find out more about their Mentorship Program at Lake Wylie Elementary School’s website HERE.
