PeeDee River Rising, Threatening Cheraw
CHERAW, SC — The Town of Cheraw in Chesterfield County is taking on more water than it can handle.
The PeeDee River is expected to crest Tuesday at 47 feet.
Rescue crews raced toward Cheraw Monday as Florence’s flooding and destruction forced people from their homes.
“If they tell you to go, get out and go. Don’t stay because there’s a chance you could be killed in it,” said Shelby Winburn.
Winburn is on oxygen. Power outages and the rising river beside her home forced her to evacuate.
The PeeDee River is feet from HWY One overpass connecting Cheraw and Wallace.
