Driver Charged After Three People Killed In Multi-Vehicle Accident In South Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three people are dead following an accident involving three cars at the intersection of South Tryon Street and Woodlawn Road in Charlotte on September 2nd.  Now, the driver accused of causing the accident is behind bars.

Around 7:40 a.m., officers with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department located a 2006 Ford Mustang with heavy front end damage, a 1998 Ford Econoline van and a 2003 Lincoln Aviator.

Medic pronounced the driver, 67-year-old Sylvia Long, and the front seat passenger, 67-year-old Simmie Long, of the Lincoln Aviator dead on scene. The driver and passenger of the Ford Econoline van and the driver of the Ford Mustang were all transported to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition.

On September 7th, the front seat passenger of the Ford Econoline van, Michael Bradley, Jr., passed away at Atrium Health from the injuries he sustained in the wreck.

According to CMPD, the Ford Econoline van was traveling west on West Woodlawn Road at a high speed and failed to stop at the traffic signal. The Ford Mustang was traveling north on South Tryon Street and had a green light.  The Ford Mustang entered the intersection at the same time as the Ford Econoline and the two collided.  The Ford Econoline van then veered to the right, striking the Lincoln Aviator, which was traveling south on South Tryon Street. The Ford Econoline and Lincoln Aviator rolled onto their sides and came to a stop in the grass on the northwest corner of the intersection.

Both the driver and front seat passenger of the Lincoln Aviator were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.  The driver of the Ford Mustang was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Ford Econoline was wearing a seat belt, but the passenger was not.

Authorities believe excessive speed and failure to stop at the red light were factors that caused the crash.

The driver of the van, Amber Frazier, has been charged with three counts of felony death by vehicle, three counts of involuntary manslaughter, felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. Frazier was taken into custody on September 17th after she was released from the hospital.
