Original Story

SALISBURY, NC– Police say two people were shot while having a picnic in a Salisbury Park Friday afternoon.

The park is located at Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and East Monroe Street.

People who live nearby say it’s a reminder that the bullets could have struck anyone.

“It’s just a big concern anytime a life is taken,” said Rev. D.M. Mason. “That’s no small affair. I have two kids here and, you know, this happened to somebody. It could have happened to anybody.”

Police have not confirmed the victims’ names and who they know each other. They are working to find out if this was a targeted shooting or random. The police chief says this is another example of gun violence in Salisbury, and he is very concerned.
