Former Crest High School Teacher Arrested For Having Inappropriate Relationship With Student

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — A former Crest High School teacher is facing two felony charges after investigators say she had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Emma Costner, 25, was arrested on October 3rd and charged with two felony counts of sex act with a student.  She is being held in the Cleveland County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.

Investigators say the charges are the result of an investigation into an alleged inappropriate relationship between Costner, who was a teacher at the time, and a Crest High School student.

A spokesperson for Cleveland County Schools released the following statement regarding the investigation:

“We appreciate the work of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department as they conducted a thorough investigation regarding the former employee.  We are fortunate to have dedicated law enforcement agencies in Cleveland County and appreciate their support in ensuring the safety of our schools.”

The district says Costner was hired as a math teacher on August 16, 2017 and resigned on September 25, 2018.
