The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Diondre Price.
The CMPD says Price was traveling northwest on Bellhaven Road at about 1:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 16th, in a 2016 KIA Optima when the car ran off the road to the right.
According to police, Price overcorrected, which caused the car to cross both lanes and run off the road on the left side. before traveling down an embankment and striking several trees.
Price was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center. The passenger, Miyatta Free, was partially ejected from the vehicle. Ms. Free sustained minor injuries.
Speed and alcohol suspected factors in the wreck. The accident is still under investigation.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is dead as a result of a crash that happened in northwest Charlotte early Wednesday.
Officials were called around 1:30 a.m. to Bellhaven Boulevard near the I-485 bridge where a deadly, one-car wreck had occurred.
The road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
No word on what caused the wreck. The identity of the person who died has not been released.
CMPD is investigating the accident.
